A Renaissance for the Poster: Blogging from ACC.13

Several Cardiology Fellows who are attending ACC.13 in San Francisco this week are blogging for CardioExchange. The Fellows include Tariq AhmadMegan CoylewrightJeremiah DeptaKumar Dharmarajan Payal Kohli, and  Sandeep Mangalmurti. View the previous post here and the next one here.

Great energy at the poster sessions this year! ACC’s decision to concentrate posters into a smaller area than in years past and place them in the Expo hall has definitely increased the foot traffic and led to a much better experience for the presenters. I bet we’re also seeing an increase in the the social capital generated by interacting around posters. Let’s hope this is the start of a new trend at both ACC and elsewhere!

  1. I was amazed by the buzz at the posters. In prior years at AHA and ACC the poster session was a ghost town – with few people passing through – and those at the posters looking longingly at any potential viewer. In this meeting you could not even get to many presenters because they were surrounded by others. It was exciting and refreshing. Maybe the placement – maybe something else – but it was great!

I think the other aspect is the session planners selecting poster times that did not conflict with popular sessions like the Late Breaking Trials. I hope these tricks will be carried forward in the future and for other conferences such as the AHA!
